About 161 Media
161 Media is the brainchild of Kyle Petersen, a graphic designer in South Haven, Michigan. I earned my degree in Telecommunications, Information Studies, and Media with an emphasis in Digital Media, Art, and Technology at Michigan State University in 2009. I have a passion for designing with web standards and creating websites that are accessible to everyone.
As designers, I feel it’s our responsibility to make sure everyone can fully experience and enjoy the new, feature-rich websites being developed everyday. Many of the issues I’ll talk about on this site are from my experience working for a university pushing for accessibility compliance.
When I first learned xHTML and CSS, I was lucky enough to have professors that were serious about standards and semantic, valid markup. Ethan Watrall and Jeff Siarto have been as much as an influence on me as names like Zeldman and Cederholm.
Currently, I’m self-employed and accepting new projects with 161 Media!
